HOS Message 2012

Mrs Sharonee Mullick

My heartiest greetings to all in this season of festivities. After the much needed Diwali break, we are sending you our first edition of our online SIS Newsletter 2012. I would touch upon the philosophical under-pining of who we are & what we are adventuring  to do.

According to Partho " I am not a  creature destined to live trapped in a particular mould of nature but possess the inherent capacity to break all existing moulds and renew or recreate myself in newer and higher moulds".

The SIS journey exemplifies our sincere efforts to pursue excellence and set new goals and hence the school motto " Carpe Diem" , meaning "Seize the Day" can be evident in all we do at SIS. We are indeed privileged to have our students , parents and our well wishers with us in this exciting journey of learning.

The Principal's message summarizes all what we have endeavored to do from the beginning of the new academic year till the end of October 2012. Then of course we have our articles which would be a good reading  for all.

Finally,a holistic education consist essentially of a three - fold process: self knowledge, awakening of the true center of one's being and a consequent process of integration and harmony. We hope that in all we do at SIS we are always reminded of developing the spirit along with the mind body and heart .

The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows- Sydney Harris

Season’s greetings to you!  Hope this Diwali break has been rejuvenating & also, a time of togetherness and joy.  This is the first issue of our online newsletter 2012 – 2013 & it covers events from August to October end.

The Growth in Student and Staff Body: The SIS family has grown in number while keeping the overall size of the school and class small and manageable. We now have two sections of Grade 6 and three sections of Grade 8 and Grade 9 and 11 have all time high numbers (55 and 70 respectively). Given this reality we have correspondingly increased the classrooms and the staff.

Academic Updates
Academically speaking, we are now also IB PYP Candidate School and have enthusiastically marched ahead adopting constructivism and the inquiry mode of learning.
This year Grade 10 IGCSE students will for the first time be sitting for Literature examination too and we have students taking Art & Design and Coordinated Science as a subject. Furthermore, in Sciences we have opted for the lab component paper so that it ties in well with the IBDP requirements.
At the IBDP level we have started offering still more new subjects - Geography, Visual Arts, and Music. This is ensuring that we have at the IBDP level good scope to develop liberal and fine arts students.
The International Mindedness and Grooming Programme is going from KG to Grade 9.
PSAT classes:
This year we have began the PSAT classes in the school campus and held the PSAT Exam. This has been a pioneering effort by SIS and we hope build upon preparing students for standardized testing which would pave way for good college placements.
Parental Interactions:
The year began with having parents coming class wise to interact with teachers and coordinators & finally culminated into having PTM on Saturday, 6th October 2012. It was good to find an overwhelming LPD parental response to   joining their child for lunch at SIS. We hope to see more parents come to encourage their children in the various inter house / inter school activities which SIS holds periodically. The feedback from the online survey indicates that SIS has been responding well to needs of its community.
