Athletic Meet 2012

REPORT ON THE ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET, 2011-12

We started with the Athletics practices by the mid of October, 2011. Students started working on their speed, endurance, strength and techniques. They also practiced hard for the “March Past” which was to be displayed on the Annual Athletic Day. Nominations for the events were done well in advance with the help of the house masters and the prefects. Nominations were done according to the age categories, i.e. under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 & under-18 for boys and girls. In “Field Events” we had Softball throw, Medicine ball throw, Standing broad jump, Straight arm hang for the Primary division and Discus throw, Shot put throw & Long jump were for the Middle and the Senior divisions. In “Track Events” we had Obstacle race, Memory race, 50m race and shuttle race for the Primary division. This time we had three track events, 100m, 200m & 400m set as the “Standard Events” where standards such as ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ & ‘D’ were set based on the timings. Students who achieved these standards were allotted 4,3,2 & 1 points respectively. Further these standards helped in nominating the best two runners of every house in all categories for all the events. Later the first four position holders in all the events were awarded 8,5,3,2 points respectively which finally got added up to their house points.
On the “Annual Athletic Day”, 17th December, as soon as the chief guest Major General Rajesh Bawa arrived we began with the opening march past. The four houses were also judged and given points for the “March Past Shield”. Here, Wimbledon stood first followed by PGA Tour, Grandmaster and Formula 1. We also had displays of the horse riding, Dumbbells, Mass Drill and gymnastics. The most attractive events for the day were the parent’s race and the inter house relay. Based on the points scored by individuals during the entire meet we had the following champions.

The final Score Board displayed the following points tally chart. The total of all the points decided the “Champion House” in athletics.

One of the exciting event towards the end,  was the “Tug-o-war” where the physical strength and coordination of all the four houses each having separate teams of boys and girls was checked.  Here, the first position was shared by Wimbledon and Formula 1 houses followed by Grandmaster and PGA Tour.
The most prestigious award, “The Sports Persona of the year” went to Rohan Sawkar of grade 12 among the boys and Gunjan Phalod of grade 12 among the girls for their great contribution to the house and to the school in the field of sports and also maintaining high standard of discipline all the year round.
